Highly recommended

We moved from UK to USA Emma was excellent along with the team went over and beyond as we had to change dates. Our furniture could not have been packed better. I would 100% recommend them to take care of you and your belongings

Long-distance move from Bristol, Bristol to Exeter, Devon

One way conversation.

This firm seemed pretty good, said the right things. They worked hard on the day and dropped off plenty of boxes before the move.
The head office do not ring you back, as a rule the person you need will be on the phone, “we will call you back” they never do. If something goes wrong, as did in our case, they deny responsibility, leaving you with the cost after having paid nearly 2K for the move, effectively your word against theirs, ergo, you are the liar.
Had hoped to use them again after we move from this rental property but not if it means dealing with their head office staff.
I would not recommend and won’t be using again.

Official company response

I am sorry that Heather was dissatisfied but I see we have been awarded three stars so clearly it wasn't a complete disaster.

The dispute/reason for dissatisfaction seems to revolve around a damaged window in the property. As part of our procedures, we check the condition of the property before and after delivery and ask the customer to countersign the report. This was done and no damage was noted. After we had left, Heather telephoned to say she had found the damaged window. We interviewed the staff who say they didn't damage the window so there seemed to us to be three possibilities.

1) The window was damaged possibly by the previous owner/their removers and not noted by us or Heather before unloading or after unloading.

2) The staff did do the damage and haven't owned up to it.

3) The damage happened after we left.

Based upon the written, signed information and what the staff said, we said to Heather, "Sorry, not us".

We issued a copy of our Complaints Procedure to Heather which provides for escalation in the event that she doesn't like the original decision which she clearly didn't on this occasion. I note, however, at the time of posting this reply that she has not asked for escalation but, of course, that opportunity remains open.

Moving a short distance in Chippenham.

This was not a straightforward move, but not particularly difficult. In January this year I used GB Cirencester to move a very short distance. However I required 6 containers to go into store because the house I was buying needed renovating to include rewiring so I needed to keep the rooms as clear as possible. GB were required to move the garden/shed/garage stuff straight to the new house, as well as a minimal amount of personal belongings to tide me over. I was persuaded to use GB although they were slightly more expensive than other quotes because of the promises regarding the care of items in storage and that they "trained their staff". I asked for an entire packing service.
The team appeared promptly (one older man and three young) and were cheerful, but the first thing one of them did was to move a gateleg table without checking it. There is a cupboard under the table where I kept some glassware. One item was immediately broken. They were very apologetic and said they would take the pieces back to the depot and report it. They did not do this but when I contacted the office, I was offered a payment to reimburse. Of course, this is not the point since the particular item was irreplaceable for sentimental reasons. It appeared to me that the younger members of the team were in a terrific hurry and not taking much care while the older member was more considerate and careful. The leader of the team was one of the young men. I did not find their attitude very relaxing.
I had clearly marked the items that were to go straight to the new house, but once the team had gone off to storage, it became clear that several items were missing. The most important item being a phone with contact details on it. These items appeared when the boxes came out of storage, still clearly marked not to go to storage!
The day booked for the stored items to be returned was the day we had a heavy snowfall which had been forecast the day before. I was in temporary accommodation and so did not want to make the journey if the team were not going to turn up. I rang the office the day before and was told that they would check the situation in the morning and if the team decided not to come, they would let me know. They were due at 8.30 and as I had not heard anything by 8 I prepared to set out. Just before leaving I rang the office and was told that the team had decided very early that morning not to come and one of them was supposed to ring me. By this time I had dug my car out and wrapped up for the journey which I decided to chance because luckily I have 4-wheel drive. The girl in the office said she would find out what had happened to my phone call and when she rang back I was told their excuse was they had not been able to get through. Bearing in mind that I was able to make and receive calls to/from everyone else that morning, I wonder what their problem was other than a wish not to get out of bed.
The stored items were delivered in March and I was hoping it would be a different team but no. I was not happy with them because of the snow fiasco but bit my tongue and just let them get on with it. Only two of the young men arrived this time with the same older man who, again, struck me as much more caring. Owing to the ongoing renovations, I am still gradually unpacking as the rooms are prepared. This means I am too late to make a claim against GB on their insurance. Quite a few items have been broken/damaged, not the least of which is a valuable wall clock which had its spring broken by not being packed correctly. Fortunately I have managed to get this repaired for only £50 but other items are irreplaceable because either their value is sentimental or they are just not available any more. Among the broken items were a miniature glass horse I have had since I was at primary school which was placed in the box with no protection and a leg had snapped off, but no sign of the leg in the box, and an electric heater with one foot missing (again, no sign of the missing part).
The latest item in a long line is a glass jug which I unpacked this morning to find it had been put in the carton with no protective wrapping at all and has a large crack in it. I have reached the stage now where I expect at least one item in every box to be damaged in some way.
I am really disappointed with GB Liners as I thought I was using a professional removal company but I will never use them again and certainly cannot recommend them. Their lack of care for my items is shocking and even when I raised things with the removal team leader, he did not seem bothered. I raised the problem of the items coming out of storage that should not have gone into storage in the first place, such as the phone, he said “Oh yea I heard something about that” and no mention of an apology. By the way, the phone no longer works, so it was clearly not stored correctly either.

Official company response

We are always disappointed to hear of a dissatisfied customer and Alison is clearly one. I am sure the dissatisfaction has reason but we do feel a little harshly treated and only one side of the story has been told.

We are clearly sorry if the impetuosity of youth means the staff didn't check under the table for anything like a cupboard. I'm not sure the some of our senior staff would either. Who puts a cupboard under a table? It is not true to say that the green flower vase was not reported - it is noted on the worksheet. I don't think there is any denying that a phone and possibly some other goods ended up in store instead of at the new address. Just how well the stuff was marked for each destination, I have no idea but I see we did offer to unstow the storage goods and find the phone and we made an allowance of £79 off the out-of-store move in relation to this issue. There is no mention of that whatsoever!

Then, of course, there is the move from store and the non-phone call. It was a day when Highways England recommended only essential travel. Alison says she has a four wheel drive car and we have a two wheel drive lorry. I am slightly surprised that she thought we could or should get the goods delivered on that day. I note she gives no credence to our story that we couldn't get our phone call through and makes unsubstantiated allegations about the staff staying in bed.

Finally, Alison comments on the quality of some of the packing and her ability to claim as she discovered the damage outside the seven day time limit. Uniquely in the UK moving industry (as far as I know), we do offer customers the opportunity to extend the time limit for claims from 7 to 28 days. Alison didn't take up this option and obviously goods shouldn't be damaged anyway but to complain about the time limit seems a little harsh.

Avoid at All Cost.

AVOID AVOID AND AVOID this arrogant and ignorant company I never had to deal with a buisness that does care that little about their customers and is arrogant thinking they are the best and only company can do removals. How wrong they are. We moved multiple times across Europe ourself and our staff. After reading the reviews I thought I try them as our usual company we use is fully booked for the period we require the move of two housholds. I requested a quote for one of them and my first call with a agent from gb liners was so unprofessional and rude I decided to email the office directly raising my concern about it and the only response was saying more less well go with a other company if you don't like my staff instead of calling me and have a chat about it and discuss my quote. I replied again saying that this response reflects the customer service from the first call and I will look for another company that cares more about their customer than gb liners. The respond was :
I doubt it, but you clearly know best.

Rob Bartup | Managing Director | GB Liners Ltd

If you don't care about customer service and want to be contacted by rude unprofessional arrogant company that you want to give your money for a service they offer GB liners is the best company to go with. However if you don't want to be treated like a child and care about customer service and professional staff moving your good don't use them.

International move from London, Greater London to , CA

London to San Fran - Avoid these Liars.

We made a massive move from London to San Francisco, with my wife 6 months pregnant at the time. With such high expectations and the most expensive fees we chose GB Liners in hope to alleviate stress for a quick and painless move. Unfortunately the move was far from perfect. Our items arrived 12.5weeks after they were taken well above the 8-9week window we were sold. As soon as we started the question, the charm of the staff evaporated. Other reviewers who experienced their arrogance are not wrong. They state they are the number 1 rated by BAR but outside of the (UK), here in the US they have a poor reputation. If only we had known - if you’re moving outside of the (UK) avoid these cowboys.

For the US they use another provider - termed a partner. Several of our items arrived scratched. An old photo with shattered glass and the delivery team (1 bloke and 2 adolescences) refused to re-assemble furniture expecting myself and my now term wife to do it.

When we complained we were met with - we are sorry you’re not happy but it’s not our fault, we are the best everyone tells us. Having paid up front we have no move, but it’s not often you make the effort of writing a review so I hope for those considering moving abroad you consider this. Being a surgeon and my wife a partner in consultancy we have no interest other than sharing the truth and hope others are saved from these con men.

For the money, time and hassle I would think carefully especially for an international move I would never recommend GB Liners - misleading, up selling, arrogant and over priced. Ones to avoid for sure.

Long-distance move from Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire to Edinburgh, Midlothian

Move to rental accommodation.

The quote was detailed and thorough. Plenty of boxes dropped off beforehand; we packed the non-breakables. The move actually took 3 days; it was a move from a good size detached house in Aberdeen to a smaller rented cottage in the country south of Edinburgh. The crew arrived promptly and packed the breakables well. It took a day and a half to load the lorry, and then a full day at the other end to unload. We were amazed at how they managed to squeeze everything into the lorry, even plant tubs. Crew were careful, polite, professional and very cheerful despite the hot weather. Everything arrived in one piece. Would definitely recommend.

Move.

Attentive and professional service throughout, from initial estimate right through to final delivery. Marginally not the cheapest quote but a willingness to be flexible in discussing arrangements made them the best deal for us, in contrast to the take-it-or-leave-it approach of others. Ultimately, though, the moving experience all depends on the abilities and the attitude of the team loading, driving and unloading the van; we couldn't have hoped for a better, friendlier, more flexible crew.

Long-distance move from Leeds, Yorkshire to Leeds, Yorkshire

Not happy !!

Although I used this removal company about 18 months ago, when at the time I wasn't very happy with the service provided (but stupidly didn't complain), it was only 2 weeks ago when I moved house again that their appalling man-handling and knowledge of my expensive solid oak furniture has become apparent.

Going back 2 years when I was first looking for a removal company, the Sales rep that came out to the house "sold" me GB Liners on the fact that due to me having OCD (contamination related), the removal guys would be all very clean and smartly dressed. The glossy brochure showed the men wearing corporate polo shirts and all looking smart. I didn't actually end up using GBL for this first move as the estate agent that sold our marital home put me onto another removal company who was about £150 cheaper.

However, for my next move some 7 months later when my rental hadn't worked out, GBL was my one and only call since I wasn't impressed with the previous removal company that I used. Although the removal itself went OK, my main complaint on the day with GBL was that the 3 guys weren't anywhere near smart, infact the older man compared very close to Compo from Last of the Summer Wine !! Although very agile and still perfectly capable, "Compo" must've been around 60, there was foreign (Polish/Czech/Romanian??) guy who didn't speak much English and finally a "normal" English guy. It is now the Eastern European guy that has caused the 1 star rating as completely unbeknown to me until 2 weeks ago when I moved again, he has ruined a couple of pieces of my oak furniture by "botching" it together when re-assembling it 18 months ago. Due to the fact that my furniture was often too big and heavy, a lot of it had to be dismantled (1 double bed, 2 single beds, a dining room table and a double wardrobe). One of the single beds wasn't reassembled correctly (which I only found out about 12 months after my move and hence too late to complain about anyway) but my main aggravation was the reassembly of my double wardrobe. The young lad that reassembled it on my last move 2 weeks ago showed me how GBL had used the wrong screws (too long) and therefore made holes all over in the top and bottom of my wardrobe or else had tightened the screws so tight that they had been rounded off. For this section of my wardrobe, the guys 2 weeks ago had to leave 2 sections of my wardrobe attached together and struggle with it.

For these reasons, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND GB LINERS to anyone !!

Long-distance move from Gloucester, Gloucestershire to Taunton, Somerset

Lost goods.

I was reasonably satisfied with the GB Liners (Cheltenham) at the time of the move. It was a difficult large move. My complaint is that they lost a Ebac Dehumidier worth about £200.00. As I was downsizing and my belongings were "stored" in the house I moved to, I could not say anything until I had checked everything which I have finally done. I did not want to accuse them unfairly. Having now gone through everything the Ebac Dehumidier is definitely missing and as there was no storage involved I can only assume it was 'lost' between the house I moved from to the house I moved to!! They moved me again (Bristol Depot) from the rented house to the house I purchased and felt that their attitude was not as good as it could have been and they managed to scratch my polished dining room table. When mentioning it to the office they said it could have been done on the first move so were not responsible.

Smooth and carefully planned move.

GB Liners are the company you can have total confidence in, particularly given the stress associated with moving to a new home some distance away. The whole team were professional efficient and courteous and everything was planned with every detail considered including perfect timings on collection and delivery. Great care was shown by the delivery team in placing all our possessions exactly where we wanted them and everything in perfect condition, nothing it seems was too much trouble, I would recommend GB Liners to anyone who wants a smooth and hassle free move.
